Carey Elzey joined Clearwater in 2023, taking on leadership of Clearwater’s talent and HR initiatives. Currently serving as the Chief People Officer & Senior Vice President, Colleague Success, Carey is responsible for aligning Clearwater’s human capital strategy with its overarching business objectives. As a senior executive, Carey plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive workplace culture, driving colleague engagement, and ensuring Clearwater attracts, develops, and retains top talent. With a focus on Clearwater’s growth, Carey leads the development of HR strategies and operational plans that continuously mature processes to recruit, develop, measure, and retain high-performing talent.
Carey is an accomplished Senior Human Resources Leader with over 20 years of experience in driving organizational growth, talent acquisition, and employee engagement strategies across multiple industries. Known for aligning people strategies with business goals, Carey has consistently fostered people-centric cultures while optimizing HR processes to improve operational efficiency.
Before joining Clearwater, Carey served as Head of Human Resources at Velocity Risk Underwriters, where she drove the development and execution of the company’s Human Capital strategy. Carey’s initiatives included successful change management projects, the implementation of new HR technologies, and executed on employee engagement activities that lead to high levels of employee satisfaction.
Previously, as Human Resources District Leader at HUB International, Carey spearheaded transformative talent acquisition and retention strategies, including redesigning employer branding and establishing an improved candidate experience, which helped the company earn multiple industry accolades. Carey also served as Director of Talent Acquisition & Development at American Health Partners, where they led talent programs across 51 locations and 5,000+ employees, managing rapid growth while enhancing employee satisfaction.
Carey holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University, with minors in Business Administration and Education. Carey is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), DISC Management Facilitator, and Predictive Index Analyst. Outside of work, Carey is a dedicated community volunteer, supporting initiatives like the Nurture the Next, Second Harvest Food Bank and the YMCA of Middle Tennessee.
