The Future of Data Privacy and Privacy Law in Healthcare: A Discussion with Former OCR Director Roger Severino

This presentation is a recording of a web event given on 2/17/2022 by former OCR Director, Roger Severino and Clearwater Executive Chairman & Founder, Bob Chaput.

Data privacy within healthcare is facing several significant issues at present. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has significant interest in improving observance of individual’s right of access, which is reflected in the settlement agreements of the past three years and in the Privacy Rule Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NRPM). The Privacy Rule NPRM may cause organizations to need to rework how workflow and processes are managed to ensure individual rights of access are observed.

At the same time, the Information Blocking Final Rule imposes requirements that add to the challenge, especially in the area of minors and their privacy rights for care that does not require parental consent.

Hovering over everything is the issue of whether it is time to consider a national privacy law that moves beyond the current, more sectoral approach.

Clearwater is proud to have former OCR Director Roger Severino, whose leadership drove much of the aforementioned activity, join us for another insightful discussion of these and other key topics. Clearwater Executive Chairman & Founder Bob Chaput lead the discussion with Mr. Severino.
